AWC's nursery division specializes in the production of high quality
native plant material for the enhancement, reclamation and creation of
wetland, riparian and native upland ecosystems. Our goal is
to increase the commercial availability and diversity of native plant material
throughout the Rocky Mountain Region.
Propagation
Services
Aquatic and Wetland Company exists to help you build successful restoration
projects. One key to successful restoration is to use plant material
which is genetically adapted to the conditions of your site. AWC
has two ways to help you do this:
• Extensive Inventory of Site Adapted Plant Material
• Contract Growing
Site
Adapted Inventory
We realize the importance of selecting site adapted plant material
for long term success and ecosystem integrity. In order to maintain
a diverse genetic pool in our inventory of plant material, AWC's team of
horticulturists have collected seed and cuttings from numerous locations
throughout the state including:
• the Front Range
• Summit County
• Estes Park and vicinity
• Poudre River Valley
• Castle Rock and vicinity
• San Miguel Valley
• Yampa River Valley
• Roaring Fork River Valley
These collections are carefully categorized and tracked. This enables AWC to offer not only plants that are native to the region, but are also adapted to specific elevations or other climatic conditions.
Contract
Growing
Contract grow arrangements are the most economically feasible and environmentally
sensitive methods available to obtain native plant materials. We
will harvest native seed or collect native stock, grow and deliver plants
to your specifications. This is the best way to ensure that a large
quantity of plant material will be available when you need it. Depending
on your project location, we can select specific ecotypes from that region
to ensure ecological success.
Mycorrhizal
Inoculation
To prepare our plant materials for installation in disturbed or degraded
sites, AWC inoculates the plants with microorganisms that enhance the plant's
ability to grow and thrive. The microogranisms ultimately increase
transplant survivability rates by encouraging the absorption of water and
nutrients as well as fending off disease.
